Lomelino

9 Outubro, 2005 · Sem Comentários

The Lomelino family has its origins in the Lomellina region, on the Italian province of Lombardia. Its first recorded member was Vassalo da Lumello, born around 1150. He moved to Genoa and all his children received Lomellini as family name. In Italy the family kept the name Lomellini and Lomellino. Our family married several important italian families such as the Doria’s, the Grimaldi’s and the Ruffo i Calabria’s.

Around 1510 Baptista Lomellini and his brother Urbano migrated from Italy to Madeira, Portugal. Urbano had no children, and all the Lomelino’s are descendant of Battista. In Portugal the name changed to Lomelino and there are several branches of the Lomelino’s. I am from the de Freitas Lomelino branch and until the 1950s we always lived in the Quinta das Cruzes, a Manor House in Funchal, Madeira. Since then the former family residence became a Museum.

There are recorded descendants from Battista Lomellini in Portugal, Belgium (in the Flanders), the United States (California, Missouri and Illinois), Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, France and Spain.

I started my genealogical research in 1984 and so far I have 27 generations and around 46.500 names.
